Privacy Policy
No sign-up
We never ask for a name, an email or a phone number, and the game is not tied to any of your accounts.
The game lives on your phone
Progress and settings are kept on the device.
Delete it and it is gone
Uninstalling the app wipes everything it kept on the phone.
1Who is responsible for your data
Scanword is developed and maintained by Electronic Hand. This document explains in plain words what data appears while you play, where it is kept and how to remove it.
For anything about data, write to
2What is stored on your phone
Everything the game needs is kept in the app’s own storage and never leaves the device, apart from the cases in section 3:
- puzzle progress: the letters you typed, solved words, points, time spent and hints used;
- settings: sound, vibration, jump to the next word, error highlighting, hint balance;
- daily scanword: which puzzle came up today, your day streak and its record;
- the player name you chose yourself for the leaderboard;
- a random player id — a string the app makes up on first launch.
The player id is not linked to your phone number, Google account, advertising identifier or anything else that points at you. It is simply a random number, so the leaderboard knows which row is yours.
3What goes to the leaderboard
The leaderboard is the only part of the game that needs the internet. Data is sent to our server electronichand.com over a secure HTTPS connection when you solve words or open the Top-100.
We send:
- the random player id;
- the name you chose for the table;
- the puzzle number and the letters you entered — the server recalculates the score itself, so a result cannot be forged;
- the time spent on the puzzle.
What comes back is a list of the hundred best results with names and scores. Offline the puzzles work in full — only the table stops updating.
4What we never collect
The app does not need any of this and never asks for it:
- name, surname, date of birth, email and phone number;
- sign-in through Google, Apple or social networks — there is no registration at all;
- location;
- contacts, calls, messages;
- camera, microphone, photos and files on the device;
- the list of installed apps and anything you do outside the game.
5Advertising
The game shows ads through Yandex Ads (Yandex Mobile Ads SDK). To pick and display a banner, the ad platform may receive technical device data and the advertising identifier — this is how any mobile advertising works.
We do not receive, store or use that data ourselves: all that reaches us is impression statistics. What exactly the platform collects, and how to switch it off, is described in its own documents — the Yandex privacy policy.
You can reset the advertising identifier or turn off personalisation in Android settings: Settings → Google → Ads. The ads stay, but they stop adapting to your interests.
6App permissions
The game asks for exactly two, and both are for the game itself:
- Internet — the leaderboard and the ads;
- Vibration — a short response when you tap a cell or a button. Can be switched off in the game settings.
7Children
The game is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are a parent and believe your child left some information in the game, write to us and we will delete it.
8How to delete your data
On the phone. Uninstall the app — all progress, settings, the name and the player id go with it. Android backup is disabled for this game, so old data does not come back: after a fresh install you start as a new player with a clean slate.
If you would rather keep the app, open Settings → Reset progress: puzzles, points, the daily streak and the record are cleared inside the game.
In the leaderboard. Write to
9Storage and security
Data travels over HTTPS only. The server keeps nothing but leaderboard rows: player id, name, score and the time of the last result. Records stay while you play, or until you ask us to remove them.
We do not sell this data and do not pass it to third parties — it exists for one job: to show you your place in the Top-100.
10Changes to this policy
If something in the game changes the way data is handled, we will update this page and change the date at the top. The current version always lives at this address, and the app’s Google Play page links to it.
